All I can say is wow. Before the election I submitted an article to the GOP blog about what I saw on the national stage and how I was upset that it had come to our town. Since that time I have received pretty snarky comments and an instance where someone actually tried to reprimand me. Really? When a person puts themselves out there in public service you have to know that you are not above criticism. Notice I did not say personal attack. I think I can speak to that with knowledge of the difference between the two with the number of times I have listened to or read letters with some pretty vile comments about me.
In all the years I have served the town of New Gloucester I have done so with pride and willingness to listen and serve all the people in town. In today’s world that is not enough it seems. I have to agree with everyone all the time or keep my opinions to myself? When I was on the Board of Selectmen many, many, many years ago I served with a person and we were not always on the same page on all issues. The debates we had at the Board level were fierce. Thing is, we could do that on one item of the agenda and then be together on all the others. How was that possible? Simple, we both knew we were there to serve all people of the town of New Gloucester not some sort of ideology or a single group of people. How do we move forward? Simple. I will continue to listen and as always overlook snarky comments and not let the attacks make me waiver in my commitment to serve all. I pray that others will do the same.
Thank you,
Don Libby
